TITIRANGI AUCKLAND - BY  APPOINTMENT / SET OPEN DAYS

Jacinda Torrance

Jacinda Torrance is an artist and graphic designer. She began drawing houseplants and common weeds a decade ago in monochromatic ink, graphite and charcoal. Her Inkweed series began with the 100 Days Project in 2014: 100 black ink drawings of  New Zealand garden weeds (plants found growing where they are not wanted).

Inkweed, mexican daisy, climbing asparagus, plectranthus, climbing dock, agapanthus are all plants Jacinda is actively removing from her South Titirangi garden, with the aim of making it weed-free. The drawings are in part a florilegium of these and other weeds pulled out. Before they are bagged up and sent to the nearest weed bin, or made into compost, they become fodder for this ongoing drawing project. The characteristics of their many and varied types of foliage are depicted in Indian ink and printed on archival paper.
